2018 Hospital System Industry Group Forum: Pregnancy Accommodation & Maternity Leave - Compliance Challenges within Health Systems

Maternity incidence in the healthcare industry is significantly higher than other industries given the predominately female workforce. While maternity leaves are a common occurrence for Human Resource departments at health systems, are you sure that all the various laws that apply to a pregnant employee are being followed appropriately in your organization? A fully engaged workforce is crucial to delivering high quality care and keeping patients satisfied, thus health systems cannot afford a misstep in this important area.

This session discussed the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and how they may or may not apply to a pregnant employee through the pre-natal to post-natal stages of pregnancy and birth. Recent legislative changes and challenges were also discussed.
